In August 2022, the Gelia Castillo Award for Research on Social Innovations in Health (GCARSIH) attracted the participation of 82 innovators from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The award is named after national scientist Dr. Gelia T. Castillo, who highlighted the need to ensure that scientific endeavors benefit humanity and society.
Among the 82 participants, three winners and seven finalists made it to the top 10 innovations that will receive an award and mentorship support following the announcement. With the CareGo EMR vaccination management app, CP Health Innovations, Inc., was selected as one of the finalists alongside well-established institutions, companies, and non-profit organizations in the Philippines.
The CareGo vaccination management application streamlines the method of automatically enrolling patients in immunization programs, especially for the mandatory vaccination of the 0 to 5 year old children. The app makes it faster and more convenient for midwives and health workers to update the vaccination status of the children and to track the next shots needed by the patients as recommended by the Department of Health.
Alongside this, the CareGo SMS app can be used to proactively engage the patients via automated and personalized SMS reminders to nudge the parents to bring their children to the health center on time.
As part of the preliminary data on the SMS nudge pilot with the United Nations Development Programme in 2021, the SMS nudges were able to increase the vaccination participation rates of the patients up to 7%. Moreover, 41% of the participants attributed their attendance to the SMS reminders they received from CareGo EMR.
The CP Health Innovations team, together with the winners and finalists of GCARSIH 2022, participated in the weekly sessions and mentorship program conducted by the DOST-PCHRD, Social Innovation in Health Initiative, and Hybridigm Consulting, Inc.
UPDATES: CP Health Innovations, Inc. was recently recognized at the Awarding and Closing Session of the Gelia Castillo Award for Research on Social Innovations in Health 2022 for their work with the CareGo vaccination management software.
