2021 CareGo Health Suite, formerly known as CareGo EMR, won the #TawidCOVID Innovation Challenge in 2021 under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), supported by the Embassy of Japan. The challenge aimed to find innovative solutions for socioeconomic recovery that could be tested and scaled up.

The CareGo Health Suite team achieved the following through the $20,000 grant:
– Tested the effectiveness of SMS nudges on the vaccination participation rates of 0 to 5-year-old children in San Pascual, Batangas.
– Measured an increase of 7% in the participation rates from the usual rates in the municipality
– Vaccinated over 1000 children on time
– Received a heartfelt message from a father thanking the team for the SMS reminder. He was made aware of the available health programs that he can take advantage of, given that he is a daily wage earner. He wishes for every child to receive the same care.
– Validated the solution through healthcare workers who reported that the application helped them in reminding the patients. Parents started reaching out to them to communicate that their children are sick and therefore cannot attend the program. Additionally, some of them arrived early at the health center, making their work easier than contacting them one by one before.

The innovation challenge sought to strengthen convergence and social accountability in local service delivery, promote sustainable livelihood and build the capabilities and assets of the poor, and mobilize new resources for these innovative approaches. CareGo Health Suite’s winning solution for improving vaccination participation rates in children aligns with these objectives.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a disproportionate impact on the poor and vulnerable. This situation has led to creative ways to help the poor in the pandemic, such as crowdsourcing and crowdfunding relief efforts, monitoring the delivery of relief to the poor, and livelihood interventions that bridge broken rural-urban supply chains, create new opportunities for the displaced, and localize the production of Personal Protective Equipment. The #TawidCOVID Innovation Challenge aimed to convert these efforts into novel, scalable, and systemic solutions for the new normal.

The CareGo Health Suite team’s win in the #TawidCOVID Innovation Challenge in 2021 is a testament to their dedication to improving healthcare outcomes through innovation. Their solution to improve vaccination participation rates in children is a step towards achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promoting social accountability in local service delivery.

The CareGo Health Suite team is thankful to Mr. Francis Capistrano, Ms. Kaye Sucgang, and the UNDP Accelerator Labs for empowering our young team to validate the solution and paving the way for more projects and opportunities for the CareGo Health Suite team.
