SAN PASCUAL, BATANGAS – The CareGo EMR team from CP Health Innovations, Inc. visited the Rural Health Unit of San Pascual, Batangas to meet with and share progress with the health workers and staff coordinators who helped with the pilot testing of the SMS nudge system under the United Nations Development Programme #TawidCOVID Innovation Challenge in 2021.
In the photo are the doctor, nurses, midwives, medical technologists, and barangay health workers of San Pascual RHU with the CareGo EMR team who attended and participated in the product orientation and demo.
The team happily reported the completion of the CareGo SMS with the health workers of San Pascual and did a successful live demo of the app. The participants asked several questions regarding the use of the application, how it fit into their current workflows, and how to troubleshoot potential issues in the future.
In the photo is Mikee Chua introducing CareGo EMR and expressing the team's gratitude towards the cooperation of the whole San Pascual RHU during the pilot testing.
Since winning the United Nations Development Programme’s #TawidCOVID Innovation Challenge, the CareGo EMR team has already been working closely with the San Pascual RHU under the supervision of Dr. Rosalina Caraan who has already retired in 2021 and Head Nurse Ms. Manalo. Through this partnership, more than a thousand families were informed of their children’s vaccination schedules, mostly for Measles-Mumps-Rubella vaccines.

As a result of the pilot testing, there was an observed 5% to 7% increase in the participation rates of the parents and children to the vaccination programs. The goal of CareGo EMR is to replicate this positive effect observed in vaccination programs to other health programs of the rural health unit like family planning, TB, and deworming programs.

Because of this fruitful collaboration, CareGo EMR (CP Health Innovations, Inc.) was also recognized by the World Health Organization as one of the 29 winning innovations in the Western Pacific Innovation Challenge 2022: Innovation for the Future of Public Health out of 400+ applications in 37 countries. For over a year of working with San Pascual RHU, the CareGo EMR team has iteratively incorporated the feedback and insights of the midwives and barangay health workers on how to better design and deploy the solution to achieve maximum impact in making healthcare delivery more efficient and effective. The demo was an initial walk-through to present the basic features and functions of the app prior to the intensive, hands-on capacity-building sessions.
In this photo is Adrian Dasigo presenting an explainer on herd immunity and how the health workers can use the information in encouraging more people in their community to get vaccinated.
The team also prepared a short science communication session on Herd Immunity and presented information and ways how the health workers can encourage members of the community to get vaccinated and to be proactive in seeking healthcare services. This is in line with the social mission of CareGo EMR – to empower the health workers with knowledge and tools to improve their work experience on the ground and to reach more Filipinos needing primary healthcare services.

In this photo are the CareGo EMR team with Ms. Manalo (Head Nurse) and Dr. Matira (Municipal Health Officer).
All of the activities and achieved milestones would not be possible without the unwavering support and assistance of Ms. Manalo and Dr. Matira, who were the first believers of the co-developed innovation and its potential large-scale and long-term impact on community health in San Pascual, Batangas.

The solution is set to be presented to the innovation to the Local Development Board by Dr. Matira and the team is scheduled to go back for the capacity-building sessions with the identified users of the CareGo SMS app in San Pascual RHU.
